A Little About Barko…
In 1963 in Duluth, Minnesota, Barko Hydraulics was founded, and have led the industry with innovative solutions that meet the needs of operators in a variety of applications worldwide. Barko began as a merger between two family-owned businesses from Minnesota- Ramey Manufacturing and Engineering and, Lake Shore Body Company. In 1962, Ramey Manufacturing declared bankruptcy, and Lake Shore Body Company took the opportunity to combine the two product lines and presented a new service to the industry. Owned by the Bartell family, the name Barko Hydraulics was soon introduced. Barko Hydraulics encountered a rapid growth over the next few years, and continued to add new equipment and applications to their product portfolio. They quickly obtained a reputation of being an innovator of well-known “industry first’s,” and introducing new products. By 1973, Barko outgrown their Duluth facility and bought the Paper Calmenson Steel Warehouse in Superior, Wisconsin, which would serve as their new corporate headquarters. Barko’s consistent business could not over power a recession in the the market, so in 1975, Barko was forced to sell their quickly growing company to Pettibone LLC. The Bartell family was asked to maintain company leadership, and soon Barko bought itself back from hard times. During the 1980’s, Barko continued to make an influence in the forestry and scrap handling business, and developed many new products and acquired other product lines such as, Bobcat Forestry Products in 1987. By the end of 1990, Barko recorded the highest earnings and revenues in company history; and over the next decade, they continued achieving steady growth and success. Today, Barko’s line of land clearing and land preparation equipment ( industrial tractors, crawlers, and mulchers) and material handlers continue to maintain the core family values that it started with, nearly 50 years ago. |
